The Elite Home Business Opportunity!

For over 30 years, I worked for someone else. Like many of you, I became frustrated with the lack of control over my professional and, especially, my personal life. Almost 4 years ago, I made the decision to take control of my life and started my home business. In the beginning, I had a few "bumps and bruises" as I sorted through all the various business opportunities. Then I was blessed to find a couple of home businesses, one which is Passport to Wealth, that changed my life. Today, I control when I work and how long all from the comforts of my home. Workathomegem.com was created to provide information, guidance, and a HOME for anyone seeking to begin a home business. We intend to provide the most relevant trends in the industry and will provide monthly newsletters on the best opportunities available. Over time, this site will describe some of the home businesses I operate, like Passport to Wealth. But my primary intention is to provide quality information for those seeking to begin, or expand, their home business and find the freedom (both financial and personal) I have been blessed to find (yes, that is me in the picture). You have my commitment that we will consistently research the industry, and along with your feedback and input, keep this site current so that anyone interested in the home business industry will know they have a place to call home! Any time you wish to contact me, please do so at info@workathomegem.com.

Web Site Traffic

Driving web site traffic to your home business web site is obviously the most important aspect for sales to occur. As in any business, to make sales you need customers to walk in your door. An online home business is no different, they are just virtual customers. Below are a few areas to keep in mind to increase your web site traffic.

The first, and most important, criteria for any on line home business is to create original content. Don’t write content which you think the computer wants. Computers can’t buy anything. Humans buy, so write content in your own words which everyone can understand. If you do this your keywords, which are critical for web site traffic, will come naturally and be more effective.

Next, promoting your home business is a must for increasing web site traffic. There are three major areas which must be addressed for your web site traffic to increase; search engines; advertising; and social marketing.

Everyone knows that Google is the most popular search engine with MSN and Yahoo behind Google. You can submit your home business web site to each of these search engines for free so don’t contract with some “expert” who wants to charge you. There are many other free search engines which you should submit to as well. One site to check out is Submit Express as an example.

Advertising is the same for your home business as it is for any “brick and mortar” business. Just like these traditional businesses, some advertising can be bought and some is free. Since free is good, sites like US Free Ads offer the ability to promote your home business which will increase your web site traffic. There are many other free sites so if you do a bit of searching you will find these opportunities easily. Obviously, you can pay for advertising through pay-per-clicks (PPC) with all the popular search engines. The good news with PPC, is that you only pay for advertising when someone clicks on your site from one of your submitted keywords. The only warning here is to be careful of your keywords submitted which will optimize your hits. If you have keywords that are not specific you will be paying for hits from visitors who are not true customers ready to buy.

Finally, the most effective method to increase web site traffic for your home business may be the increase of social marketing. Everyone knows about Facebook or Digg and its growth but there are many other similar social sites around. Joining and participating in these sites, frequently, will increase web site traffic dramatically. Others to consider are Furl, Twitter, Propeller, or Mixx. There are many others as well which again are free to join so check them out!

Paradox Principle

In running a home business, there is a formula which has assisted me in developing a very successful home business. The formula is called the Paradox Principle. The Paradox Principle has four areas which must be honestly addressed in the development of any home business opportunity. Those four steps are Awareness; Vision; Strategy; and, Execution. Below find a brief overview about each step of the Paradox Principle:

1. Paradox Principle - Awareness: The main question to ask yourself is “Do I get it”? In other words, do I have a complete understanding of what is involved in operating your home business opportunity? Do you fully understand the product you are promoting, the industry of your product, the benefits your product addresses for your customer, how your customer’s perceive your product? Be aware you will never totally “get it” so always keep learning.

2. Paradox Principle - Vision: Here your question should be “Can I see it”? Do you have a vision of what the end, or outcome, looks like for home business opportunity?

3. Paradox Principle - Strategy: “Do I know what to do” is the question to ask in this home business step. Here a few of the questions you need to answer are, how do I market my product, what is my selling price, and do I need outside assistance to support my home business? Make sure you have a written business plan for each home business opportunity.  Don’t leave it to your memory to recall all the details.

4. Paradox Principle - Execution: “Will I get it done”? Having completion dates for each of your strategies is essential. Too often strategies are written but no date of when it will be executed is stated. By not putting a completion date on a task, you will find that many will never get completed because there is no “urgency” placed on it and your home business will suffer.

Obviously, there are many more questions within the Paradox Principle that must be addressed but that will be saved for another article. The main point now is to know if these four steps are followed your chances of having a successful home business will increase dramatically.

Maintaining a Home Business

So now that you have read “Building a Virtual Corporation“, how do we maintain our home business? Below are five (5) “musts” for maintaining a virtual corporation. Once you incorporate these into your daily routine, you will find your home business grow and become even more successful.

#1: Make a Decision
You will have daily decisions in growing your home business, so get used to it! Once you have done your due dilligence, make your decision and stick to it! Don’t change your mind over and over again, give your decision your best effort and let it play out. The reality is you are going to make mistakes in managing your home business, everyone does. So expect it and move on. But you won’t know if you made the right decision for your home business until you make one. So just make it!

#2:  Stay Focused
Staying focused and concentrating on your virtual corporation is one of the hardest adjustments for a home business. As you learned in “Building a Virtual Corporation“, establish a friendly home work environment with limited distractions. If you have a TV in your home work area, keep it off or unplugged. If your home work area has a door, close it during your work time so you are not bothered by others who may be in the house. Put a time limit on your home business activities then follow them. Make sure you are taking a 15-20 minute break every 4 hours to keep your mind clear and churning. More on this is described in #4, Taking time off to Relax, below.

#3 Write a Daily Game Plan
Not only is important to have a written plan for your home business, but having a daily plan is equally important. Start your day with a written plan, even if it is simply making lists. Writing it down will add accountability and give you goals which you can track each day. Plus it will help you get tasks in order. Be prepared to have another list which for future home business goals and tasks. As you create your daily list you will find that ideas for the future will surface. Capture these home business ideas as they come to you. Don’t trust your memory to recall it several days down the road. Having a written daily plan will help you concentrate on the main tasks you need to do for your home business and will help staying focused.

#4 Taking Time Off to Relax
For any home business to be successful, it is critical to take time off both throughout the day and each week. If you haven’t already, you will find as your home business grows you spend more and more time in your home office. Having a home business is not an 8-5 job so having the discipline to schedule your hours is critical. Determine your family needs and schedules then set your work hours accordingly. Next, make sure you take 15-20 minute breaks every 4 hours to help in keeping your energy level high. Go for a walk, have a fitness program, take a nap, or read a book are examples of ways to get away from your home business for a few minutes. Just make sure to give a rest to your mind and body. If you do this on a regular basis, you will find you return to your home business with new energies. As important, take at least 1 day completely off every 7 days from your home business. Not only will you appreciate it but so will your family and friends. Follow these recommendations and your motivation and inspiration levels for a successful home business will remain at their optimal levels.

#5 Ask for Help
A big mistake many home business owners make is not asking for help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. Find a home business mentor or support group. Running a successful virtual home business is difficult enough. Then you add the daily changes of the internet, maintaining your appropriate education level for a successful home business will only come by learning from others. Have the goal of learning and discovering something new every day relevant to your home business. By having a home business mentor or support group and asking questions will help you keep your competition behind you. Having a home business is competitive and staying ahead of everyone else is the difference between those who succeed and everyone else.
